Rosy Boas Mountain Kingsnakes Kingsnakes

Rosy Boas

Lower Baja, Mexico

The color pattern and gentle nature of this boa make it one of the more popular Rosy Boas in collections. Animals from this region tend to be smaller than other locales. Side stripes are well demarcated, clean, and can range from light to dark chocolate brown (some locales approach black) on a base of creamy-yellow to beige. Our collection contains breeders from the La Paz and Loreto areas, and one line is producing offspring with much wider side stripes than usual.

Bay of LA, Mexico

Originating from upper Baja, Mexico ( Bahia de Los Angeles), these are among the more popular Rosy Boas. The stripes range from brick red to bright orange, and the base color from tan to silver-gray. That color contrast added to orange colored eyes makes for quite a beautiful boa.

Mid-Baja, Mexico Intergrade

This female is my favorite boa. She was acquired without any historical data, but through a bit of research and "back breeding" I was able to establish that she most likely represents an intergrade between two boa populations that overlap in their range. The two side stripes are a different shade of light brown than the back stripe, and all three are bordered by single-scale rows of black creating a nice contrast effect. Her future mate is currently growing and I hope to produce these soon on a consistent basis. Please note that we do not advocate the random breeding of Rosy Boas except where native populations overlap and thus could interbreed in nature.

Whitewater Canyon, California

This canyon is one of the most popular "rosy hunting" spots for several reasons. Over time it has developed an aura as a rosy "hot spot," it is home to some beautiful intergrade boas in addition to many other snake species, and was the first place that an albino rosy boa was found. The boas here are a coastal-desert intergrade. Our breeders are exceptional in that the stripe pattern is of a brighter orange than often found in nature, rivaling San Gabriel boas to the north. Considering their historical importance, these are a "must" for anyone with a large or growing rosy collection. Note: Don't get caught out there without a license or breaking the wildlife laws in any way. You will pay dearly!

Hemet, California

These coastal boas are from Riverside County, California. They are great feeders and as adults are among the largest Rosy Boas in terms of maximum length and girth. Their base color predominates over the brown to rust irregular stripes, giving them an attractive blue-gray appearance.

Corn Springs, California

This location produces brilliantly colored desert phase boas. The straight, bright orange stripes on a cream colored base produce a striking boa well suited for a desert-theme vivarium.

Trona, California

Located about 160 miles northeast of Los Angeles, this area produces some interesting little high desert boas. Their mellow disposition and ground coloration make them another good choice for a desert-theme vivarium. Stripes range from straight to jagged earthy brown on a cream base color.

Dome Rock, Arizona

These stocky little boas are also known for their attractive earth tones. Stripes are wide, straight with a slightly jagged edge, and a nice deep orange-brown on a beige base with some speckling.

Mountain King Snakes

California Mountain Kingsnakes

The Mountain Kingsnakes are stealthy, secretive, tri-colored colubrids that inhabit higher elevation coniferous forests through most of their range. As a group they are smaller than other Kingsnakes and are less common yet more highly prized in reptile collections. Our animals are from a pure blood line originating from a range associated with the San Jacinto mountains in Riverside County, California...an uncommon locality in Zonata collections.

Kingsnakes

Desert Phase Kingsnake

The black and white desert phase of the common kingsnake is, in our opinion, the prettiest of all naturally occurring variants. The color contrast of the bands is striking. They are hardy eaters, grow rapidly, and when handled regularly are very well mannered. Our breeders are from top stock and originate from Baja, Mexico. Also available, but not pictured yet, are an intergrade California Kingsnake from the Whitewater Canyon region.
